Need a Safe Place to Sleep Off Alcohol or Drug Use?

Have you, a friend, or a family member had too much to drink or used another substance and need a safe place to recover?

The Sobering Up Shelter (SUS) is a voluntary and confidential overnight service for people aged 18 and over who are intoxicated by alcohol and/or other drugs. It offers a safe environment to rest, recover, and get support.

Opening Hours:
Friday, and Saturday nights
11:00 PM to 11:00 AM (last admissions at 6:00 AM)

The shelter is staffed by trained Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Workers, and provides:

  • Overnight care and monitoring
  • One-on-one education and support on issues such as:
    • The effects of alcohol and other drugs on health
    • How substance use can impact relationships, work, or study
    • Strategies to cut down or quit
    • Harm minimisation tips

We can also help with referrals to other services, including:

  • Detox and withdrawal programs
  • Drug and alcohol rehab services
  • Counselling and support groups
  • Mental health services
  • Supported accommodation

How to refer:
Referrals can be made by individuals, friends, family, ACT Policing, or ACT Ambulance. Just contact us directly:
