Ricky Stuart House

Short-term respite for children is provided at Ricky Stuart House.

Ricky Stuart House is a purpose built, state of the art facility, situated in Chifley and set up to work with children, aged 5-12 years, and their families and support networks, to ensure collaborative relationships to achieve outcomes specific to each child.

Our staff support kids to:

  • Participate in community activities and social outings
  • Engage in activities that enhance health and wellbeing
  • Develop independence in daily living skills, personal activities schooling and skill development.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is accommodation normally available?

Children can access Ricky Stuart House either by coming for a few hours after school, staying a night or staying a weekend. Accommodation is available dependent upon bookings. Accessing Ricky Stuart House can be discussed with the Accommodation and Services Coordinator or Unit Manager on an individual basis.

Who is eligible?

A child between five and 12 years of age who has an NDIS Plan.

How do families book?

Families can begin by phoning Marymead CatholicCare Canberra & Goulburn and speaking to an Accommodation team member

What are the payment options?

Payment can be made through a child’s NDIS plan from the ‘Core’ budget.  Prices will be charged at the capped rates as outlined in the latest NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits.

 What activities occur at Ricky Stuart House?

Activities include water play, trampolining, bike riding, sand play, swings, going to a movie, a visit to the Zoo, Questacon, The National Dinosaur Museum, Sensory Room and the Boundless playground and other playgrounds across Canberra such as Kambah Park and Gordon playground.


RSH Connect & Create – After-School & Weekend Program

Ricky Stuart House is proud to deliver RSH Connect & Create, a structured after-school and weekend program for children aged 5–12 years with disability or developmental delay.

The program focuses on building social skills, emotional regulation, confidence and independence through small-group, goal-oriented activities. Support ratios range from 1:1 to 1:3, ensuring children receive the level of assistance appropriate to their needs.

Activities include creative expression, structured play, life skills development, cooking, gardening and movement-based sessions — all delivered in a safe, supportive environment.
