New Horizons

New Horizons provides confidential, early intervention, mental health counselling and clinical support to families with children and adolescents (0-18 years of age) with mental health concerns.

The New Horizons program aims to help your child stay connected to others, explore their life choices, increase capacity and coping strategies, improve wellbeing and support them in strengthening their relationships with their family, friends and loved ones.

New Horizons is for residents in ACT and Queanbeyan.

Our mental health counselling aims to:

  • Assist with mental health concerns
  • Help you navigate key life transitions
  • Promote positive self-care
  • Assist in repairing relationship breakdowns in your family unit
  • Increase family resilience, support and coping strategies
  • Increase your ability to better manage different aspects of your life.

Who is our service for?

Any family with a child or young person aged 0-18 years old who;

  • Is showing signs of mental illness
  • Is at risk of developing mental illness
  • Needs support, counselling or connections
  • Is wanting to talk about what matters to them
  • Needs assistance with improving relationships.

 Who are we?

We are a multi-disciplinary team of experienced social workers, psychologists and counsellors located at: 255 Goyder Street Narrabundah ACT.

What do we offer?

Psychoeducational groups within a school setting, including:

Circle of Security Parenting (COSP) – an 8-week program delivered in a group format to parents/caregivers.

Seasons for Growth – uses the imagery of the seasons to help a child or young person understand their experience of change and grief and develop strategies to strengthen their emotional and mental wellbeing.

DRUMBEAT – Design for children and young people who may respond better to somatic-based approaches.

RAGE – for young people aged 11-17 years to understand angry and guilty emotions and develop positive ways to communicate and express their emotions.
