Hands On Studio

At Hands On Studio, we believe that art is a powerful form of human expression, and everyone—regardless of their background or abilities—deserves the chance to explore and share their creativity.

Operating from two vibrant studios, one at M16 Artspace in Griffith and the other in O’Connor, ACT, Hands On Studio offers a welcoming, supportive environment for artists to discover and develop their unique creative voices. Our 3-hour classes are guided by a person-centred approach, giving artists the freedom to work with any medium or material that inspires them.

Each week, 110 artists, aged 19 to 86, gather in our studios to collaborate, learn, and grow together. This diverse and dynamic community brings a wealth of experiences, ideas, and aspirations, creating a rich and inspiring atmosphere and place to meet new people. The collective spirit of Hands On Studio encourages everyone to develop their personal styles, explore new practices, and connect with both local and interstate artists.

The artists have used their practices to gain equal access, communicate with their peers and develop a strong sense of self and community.  The artists have exhibited works in a selection of Canberra’s leading galleries including The Drill Hall Gallery, M16 ARTSPACE, Parliament House, The Legislative Assembly, Canberra Museum and Gallery (CMAG), Megalo Print Studio and many more. As well as exhibiting their works broadly the artists have delivered disability inclusion workshops to school age students, the APS and the private sector with the aim to provoke equality and a supported future.

Sessions are held at Tension Wood House, 57 MacArthur Avenue, O’Connor ACT and at M16 ARTSPACE at 21 Blaxland Crescent, Griffith ACT.

If you require a support worker to attend the group/s with you, that’s absolutely no problem! We ask that support workers kindly follow the guidance of the group facilitator to ensure you’re getting the most out of the experience and support you with your personal care needs if that is required. It’s all about making sure you feel comfortable, included, and able to fully participate in the fun and connection that our groups offer.
