Horizons South Coast (Mental Health Counselling for children and young people)

Horizons Bega and Horizons Eurobodalla provide confidential, early intervention, mental health counselling and outreach support services for children, young people and their families in the Eurobodalla and Bega Shires. The Horizons team a trauma informed, strengths-focused and utilise a range of modalities to help children and young people explore their life choices, increase capacity and coping strategies, improve wellbeing and support them to strengthen their relationships with their family and loved ones.


Our mental health counselling aims to:

  • Help to navigate key life transitions
  • Promote positive self-care
  • Assist in repairing relationship breakdowns in your family unit
  • Increase family resilience, support and coping strategies
  • Increase your ability to better manage different aspects of your life.


Who is our service for?

Any child or young person aged 0-18 years old who;

  • are showing signs of mental health concerns
  • Is at risk of developing a mental illness
  • Needs support, counselling or connection
  • Is wanting to talk about their worries and what matters to them
  • Needs assistance with improving relationships
  • Resides in the Eurobodalla and Bega Shires


Who are we?

We are a multidisciplinary team of experienced social workers, psychologists and counsellors based at Moruya and Bega.

 

What do we offer?

We provide government subsidised, trauma informed, outreach, mental health counselling.

We provide clinical outreach support with a primary focus on children, young people and their family. We also work holistically to support the family by providing information, referrals, advocacy and counselling where needed.

Our sessions can be offered across varied locations to meet your needs.

Mental health counselling is delivered over 3–6 months.

Support can be provided both individually, to family groups and in groups within schools.


We provide a range of psychoeducational groups within a school setting, including:

  • Circle of Security Parenting (COSP) – an 8-week program delivered primarily in a group format to parents/caregivers.
  • Stormbirds – For children & young people who have been impacted by natural disasters.
  • Seasons for Growth – uses the imagery of the seasons to help a young person understand their experience of change and grief and develop strategies to strengthen their emotional and mental wellbeing.
  • DRUMBEAT – Design for children and young people who may respond better to somatic-based approaches.
  • RAGE – for young people aged 11-17 years to understand angry and guilty emotions and develop positive ways of self-expression.
