IMPACT Program

Schools are often the first to identify issues within a family. Our IMPACT Program allows us to work within the school to provide early intervention, holistic family support and contributes to the broader student wellbeing initiatives, customised to meet the needs of the school community as opposed to the traditional model of a school counsellor.

The IMPACT program leverages Marymead CatholicCare Canberra & Goulburn’s established expertise from two of our existing programs – New Horizons Early Intervention Mental Health program (for 0- 18 years old) and our Family Support & Connect in Schools (in NSW Primary and Secondary Schools).

The particular configuration of IMPACT is developed in consultation with each school and is fully customisable. Delivery is dependent on resourcing and prioritisation of service offerings to meet the needs of each school community.  Service and supports will continue over the school holidays where relevant, with the clinician based either at the school or at Marymead CatholicCare Canberra & Goulburn during this time.

The flexible service model is offered within the school and includes the following components:

  • Individual short-term counselling (both alone with child/young person and with parents present)
  • Parental support and interventions
  • Family support
  • Supported referral to external services
  • Therapeutic group sessions
  • Teacher in-service and support
  • Participation in case meetings and pastoral care reviews

This program is only provided in specific schools. Contact your school directly to enquire about school counselling.
